Microsoft Excel has a Ribbon Display Options feature that allows you to customize the Ribbon and also the Tabs that appear at the top of your screen.
The Ribbon Display Options button (top-right corner of your screen) allows you to hide the Ribbon but not the Tabs; or, you can hide both the Tabs and the Ribbon. The one-inch space that you lose at the top of the screen, you gain at the bottom of the screen with the addition of a few additional rows to play with.
